A Plastic Vacation

‘A Plastic Vacation’ is an extension of the Auntlantis series, which draws inspiration from Plato and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This light-hearted episode captures the carefree spirit of a summer holiday, set against the backdrop of a beach. The aunties appear dressed in trendy beachwear upcycled from ocean waste, creating a look that’s vibrant, playful, and colourful embodying a sense of joy and sustainability. Workshop

‘Workshop’ is an extension of the Auntlantis series, inspired by Plato and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This episode fills in the narrative gap between Sweeping the Floor and A Day in the Life Of. The former shows aunties collecting plastic waste on the
beach and in the ocean, while the latter focuses on Auntie’s Outlet Mall selling upcycled plastic products. Workshop begins with trash collection on the beach and progresses to a massive facility where aunties and creatures work together to shred, process, and reimagine the waste into new forms, including plastic aunties. The episode concludes with familiar scenes from Auntie’s Outlet Malls, completing the cycle of transformation. Created, animated, and edited by Niceaunties in the programmes Dalle3, magnific.ai, suno, and lumalabs.ai. AI generated music by Niceaunties, sound design by Niceaunties.

Snowman

The snow people of the dune always wondered what it would be like to leave home, to be away from friends, to brave the sun. One of them did, traveling to many places. One day, an auntie saw it in the park, loved it so much that she brought it home. The cat, however, played a prank that led to an unexpected ending.

This film is an homage to the ‘Snowman in a Fridge’ I encountered at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel in 2024. Originally created in 1989 by Peter Fischli and David Weiss for a thermal power station in Germany, the snowman, fully made of snow, was intended to be an artwork reliant on energy produced by the plant. In 2016, the snowman was refabricated with a steel skeleton, exhibited at multiple museums, and later integrated with a solar power source for the Fondation Beyeler.

NICEAUNTIES

A Singaporean artist specializing in AI, Niceaunties redefines the perception of ‘aunties’ in Asian culture through her surreal universe, the Auntieverse. Blending humor and depth, her creations explore themes of aging, freedom, and the everyday lives of older women. Inspired by her grandmother, her work merges digital art, architecture, and pop culture. Internationally recognized, her pieces have been exhibited at Christie’s, Art Basel, and during a TED talk. Niceaunties uses AI as a tool for empowerment, challenging stereotypes and celebrating cultural diversity, despite the controversies surrounding AIgenerated art
